Meeting Notes

January 7, 2004

In Attendance : Liz, Rick, Tom, Michelle, Dennis

Rick told us that he was in a meeting where Sharon Steel was discussed and it is probable that Sharon Steel has been purchased and that the transaction will close on January 15, 2004.

Dennis remarked that the road needs to be a priority.

Liz told us that the buyers are asking about piercing the cap and then restoring it after the utilities, infrastructure, etc. are in place. These buyers have had Brownfields experience.

UTA is discussing a corridor through Midvale Slag and has a triple track easement right of way through the property. The track and support station will be on a City Council Agenda and is part of the Master Plan agreement.

The RDA public hearing for the Midvale Slag site was held. Individual property owners could opt out of the site.

EPA update is that the Ground Water Remedial Design (GWRD) will be coming soon with comments due on February 5th. UDEQ will review and comment on the doc's while they are gone.

Liz reported on Sharon Steel: The end of November site inspections went fine. They received a document from the developers and made comments. Now the city has the lead on development of the site.
The developer will be bringing in some dirt to stockpile for fill.

The conclusion will be that they cut the cap as little as possible. They will perform a test first.

Dennis asked about the longevity of a patch.

Tom said they could drill a hole, slip a casing in, seal the annular space and look at the shrinkage around the piping. He told us that they drill oil wells in the ocean and are able to keep water out.
They may even use piling supports and slab on grade.

The next riparian meeting has been delayed.
The first meeting was more to get to know you and the facilitation process. And to discuss funding sources. They also identified common objectives. There was some good discussion of issues and how to tackle them. There was an on-site inspection at the end and the group walked from 6400-7800 South.
They saw the diversion damn on this walk.

The agencies involved were FWS, EPA, UDEQ, The Audobon Society, The Army Corp of Engineers, CDM, JVWCD, Littleson and members of CSFM.

They followed the agenda.

It was suggested that we invite Kristen to come to our meeting to give a presentation on our web site. Maybe she could use David's laptop and give us a demonstration from her perspective. What facilities are available for presentation at the city?
